Please, no more excuses. You deserve better.

Some of the reasons that I have heard from women about why they won’t/can’t sign up for a HypnoBirthing course include:
- My partner doesn’t want to do it
- My partner thinks it’s crap
- It is too expensive
- I have to check with my husband; and then they never get back to me.

In Australia, 1 in 3 women report that their birth experience was traumatic, and 1 in 4 women report experiencing major physical damage from the birth (www.birthtrauma.org.au). You may be unaware of this, but negative or traumatic birth experiences can also affect men. Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Australia (PANDA) report that 1 in 10 men experience postnatal depression (www.panda.org.au).

I have had partners come along to the course who have missed basketball training for the 5 weeks; missed work meetings and dinners; and a couple of partners have even driven 3-4 hours home from where they were working that day to attend the classes. They recognised, and understood, that attending HypnoBirthing classes was important to their pregnant partner, and therefore important to them too.

It is all about priorities.

I know that the classes seem like a lot of money to fork out at once. However, all the HypnoBirthing International Practitioners that I know will offer you a payment plan. Sometimes, they also have competitions and special offers for their courses.

No one bats an eyelid at spending $1000 on a pram that may last 5-10 years, or a $500 car seat that lasts for 10 years. In comparison, some people can’t fathom paying $600-650 for a group HypnoBirthing course in preparation for a birthing experience that you will remember for the rest of your life (50+ years!).

Attending a HypnoBirthing course does not guarantee that you will have a particular type of birth outcome, but we do guarantee to educate you; provide you and your partner with many different tools and techniques use during labour; and to give you the knowledge and confidence to speak up for yourselves and your unborn baby. Every couple that I have spoken to, who attended a HypnoBirthing course, have reported a positive birthing experience - even if their birth did not go to plan.

If you have ever considered signing up for a HypnoBirthing course, I urge you to do it. You will not regret it.

Your mental and physical health are just too important.
